Legislative Intern Program
Since 1999, The Arc in Hawaii has worked to highlight the abilities of people with an intellectual disability through work projects such as the annual Legislative Intern Program. In the first three years, The Arc has had 70 interns participate in the legislative process by volunteering in legislators' offices for one week. Interns work independently or with support and perform a variety of tasks alongside other legislative staff. The program has been so successful that several interns have been asked to continue as volunteers or on a paid basis.
