Residential
Services
The Arc in Hawaii provides residential services
through 14 developmental disabilities domiciliary
homes, 11 ICF/MR-C homes and four apartment buildings
on Oahu and Kauai.
The Arc's Homes
The Arc's homes provide living accommodations
for three to seven individuals. They are staffed
by a live-in home manager with additional support
staff as needed. The home manager is responsible
for coordinating and implementing individualized
plans, as well as the care and supervision for
all residents.
All staff are trained and certified by the
State of Hawaii's Department of Health Visions
Program. They receive annual training in First
Aid, CPR and a variety of other areas. The Arc's
program staff regularly monitors homes for support
and to assure the residents' safety. All of
The Arc's homes are licensed and/or certified
by the State of Hawaii Department of Health
as a Developmental Disabilities Domiciliary
or ICF/MR-C home and are monitored at least
annually.
Although the homes are licensed settings governed
by many state and federal regulations, the homes
are encouraged to create a "family"
environment where residents feel comfortable
and in control of their living situation. Each
resident has an individual plan which is designed
to support them in building skills such as community
mobility, domestic tasks, eating, recreational/leisure
activities and money management. All homes are
also required to follow The Arc's operating
principles.
Persons living in an ICF/MR-C home also qualify
for 24 hours of services and supports. ICF/MR-C
residents receive day services and ancillary
services to support them in developing independence.
The goal of each person's plan is to enable
them to develop the skills to move toward a
less-restrictive community setting.
The Arc's apartment units are intended for
persons with intellectual disabilities who live on
a low income and who seek an independent living
situation with minimal supports.
Funding for residential services come from
the resident's income, Supplemental Security
Income, State Supplemental payments, subsidies
from the U.S. Dept of Housing and Urban Development,
State Medicaid Program, the Harry & Jeannette
Weinberg Foundation and Aloha United Way.
